FB post from this guy:
David Elliott added 5 new photos to the album: George Saunders @ VT

George Saunders signed my books at Virginia Tech on April 1. He had
already signed most of my books at a reading at Hollins University
several years ago. He remembered. I had a few more for him to sign
this time.
We talked a little about Thomas Pynchon. I told him TP's blurb on
George's first collection convinced me to read it. He said that things
really took off for him after that blurb. He told me Vineland is his
favorite Pynchon novel and acknowledged that is not the majority view.
He also mentioned Inherent Vice.
"An astoundingly tuned voice - graceful, dark, authentic, and funny."
~ Thomas Pynchon on "Civilwarland in Bad Decline: Stories and a
Novella"

I recently had forwarded an Ebay pic of a letter and ARC from a top
editor, Ms. Ann Patty, to Thomas urging him to read an early book by
the now-huge FIRE & ICE success George R. R. Martin. Evidently,
neither Ms.Jackson nor Thomas read the ARC nor did he blurb the book.
He got huge by other ways.
