Tim Parks has been finding a lot of later books by
famous GOOD writers to be ....self-derivative, repetitive,
in some way inferior to the first bursts of the writer's vision.
Truth there often but.......often I think he substitutes "make it new"
for "make it great"...
And why, whatever we think of Murakami---or Franzen---would he
(we) think either was just writing 'another bestseller"?......both
have all the money they will ever need and have said so and live
like it.
Parks is getting repetitive. And narrowly demonizing.
