On the topic of speed:
W. T. Lhamon Jr., Deliberate Speed. The Origins of a Cultural Style in
the American 1950's.
http://www.amazon.de/Deliberate-Speed-Origins-Cultural-American/dp/0674008731
Bought this in the City Lights bookstore way back when. Wittgenstein,
Charlie Parker, Jack Kerouac, Little Richard, Ornette Coleman, Ralph
Ellison, the great, great Chuck Berry, a chapter titled "Keep cool, but
care" and much more. Highly recommended.
