While the subject is up I'll mention Tears of Gaza (2010). I met a
Palestinian journalist who had documented the war and this material
was then smuggled out and used by the Norwegian Vibeke Lokkeberg. Of
course it was attacked and called propaganda. But the footage is
authentic.
Of course Hamas does not get my sympathy, but children do - regardless
of their nationality. If they (AIPAC and whoever else) want to call me
an anti-semite for criticising the Israeli military policy then at
least I'm in good company with people like Chomsky, Woody Allen and
others who have voiced the same criticisms. But it's a weak attack.
J-street needs more support to counter the influence of AIPAC and others.
Peace and love did not die with the 60's. Peace is possible.
Peace.

He was very evenhanded in his views of the conflict before going and is one of the gentlest and most compassionate people I know. His experience and witness of Israeli laws and treatment of Palestinians, while attempting to be non-judgmental painted a very dark picture of Israeli behavior. If americans knew this story leavened with the same human sympathy with the lives of Palestinians as is extended to Israel, If the holocaust and accusations of anti-semitism were not thrown at anyone who sees disgraceful behavior in Israeli policies, it is very hard not to believe that we would be closer to peace and justice for all parties.
