Odds of another Pynchon novel

Me too has difficulties with seeing IV in VL,
my guess is the following:

IV takes place where GR ends; I think Pynchon wrote a first draft of IV
after he finished GR. Then it lay in the drawer for three decades before
Pynchon had an idea: Hey, this could bring me to Hollywood! And so he
worked it over.

ATD ends with Lew Archer [link to Deep Archer?] as the hard-boiled LA detective. Was IV possibly spawned at this time, as private eye material that he decided not to incorporate into VL?
