Fwiw, Nassau County is still weighted towards Republicans today as is
Suffolk County where I grew up (even if people dont vote Republican they
essentially support the Fox News worldview)
I once was a beneficiary of party politics on LI when getting hired for a
position at OTB, all openings divvied up between the two parties
apparently. attend one meeting, shake hands with the grand pooba and bob's
yr uncle. you need never show up to another meeting. and there's little ole
stoner/burn out me getting fingerprinted and such at the Suffolk County PD.
Though job has its perks--I got to handle more than $10K in cash with a
police escort to drop off the branch winnings once a week.
