Yes, about the book- (The Witches by Stacy Schiff) It’s now on my wish list (and I buy / read from that rather from a TBR pile). -

Schiff is a journalist by trade but she writes some great feminist biography - meaning the author has to produce something historically valid and cohesive working from very little hard specific evidence because women left very little to work from. They often didn’t make the big military/political splash the men did and have other write about them. And they often didn’t read or write themselves so not a whole lot of memoirs. Her books "Cleopatra” and “Vera” were excellent and I expect "The Witches” to live up to that standard. Thank you, Laura!

(men as well as women were persecuted though the latter took the brunt). also the fact that such hysteria raised its head and withered away as if nothing happened (not with a bang...). I think the site of the hangings in Salem is now a Walgreens or sits right by it. seems apt

I.e., an emotional decision with dire consequences.

I'm not far enough in to have a feeling for whether this document-based approach is going to make the story more or less interesting. Anyone happen to have read it?
