Pynchon's S's & Q's

His sense of silliness and slapstick does feed the language. To me there is some sort of Looney Tunes humor-logic embedded in those names in particular, and the sound you mention. In 'absquatulate' I hear a funny sort of cadence that sounds like the same voice as what said, "the frying of latke 49."
