Re: GR translation: Contrasting wood x’s on closed doors

This all reminds me of something else I think worth saying
about the imminent Group Read.

Some in the past jumped in on the earliest posts, did some fine mini-essays
on
Pynchon-inspired themes: colonialism, ye olde power-dominance, more, more
all kinda triggered by "something, something" but exploding way beyond the
chapter, the scene,
the text in question THEN.

Which is what some do, there are no rules in this utopia, but often they
and others who jumped
in to argue, refine, add nuance, complicate the discussion.....

THEN seemed to be done with the Read, slowly leaking away at best. As if
they had shot their Reading Wad
(is that offensive?)  Or repeating a lot at the general level (Hey, you
talking to me?)

What I hope we can do, is have a Group Read as focussed as we have been
when we encounter
and respond to Mike's translation prompts. There is a word or phrase or
scene or character and
getting it right MATTERS.
it leads to associated depths sometimes not directly relevant but very
associated with that literal
post. Therefore with Pynchon's genius---a Progressive Knotting Into a patch
of text.
A general mutual acceptance of much basic
understanding about P's vision and GR. (if we all wrote our own analysis,
each would differ but
commonalities would be foundational, yes?) A text-based criticism that can
move like a wave thru
ALL the text, finding connections, subtleties, associations, things to
simply point at and say WOW!

Reflect.
