In an interview he was asked why the digger is called the Pinschon:
:Well, it’s also partly because he has, in Against the Day, he has a
giant burrowing machine and that is…the Pynchon in the book is a giant
burrowing machine, so that’s a little hat tip to him."
Elsewhere, at a live event, he said "My whole life has been an effort
to triangulate between Dungeons and Dragons and Thomas Pynchon.”
