BtZ42 Calvinism in unusual places?

p. 58....Prentice sez, after declaring the obviousness of
more rockets, greater chance of catching one...then sez
"of course you can't say he's not paying a minimum dues.
But aren't we all."...[a statement, not a question].

Roger has a surprising (to me) answer: 'Well, it's the damned [and another
little word ya gotta love]  Calvinist insanity again. Payment. Why must
they always put it in terms of exchange?"

what's the exchange? ....

is "the minimum dues" akin to original sin? original damnation to ....all?
