Janos adumbrated the olde trope truths about
Pynchon in GR. North and attendant associations
BAD; South etc, GOOD, and more and more subtly
embodied fer sure.

Maybe we shouldn't leave this section without mentioning
other examples. Fowler finds lots.

He notices the fecund tropical decorations at the Ballroom, 'giant
philodendrons, green broad leaves and jungle palms" .....that one
bartender is identified as a West Indian.....'Cherokee' the song
being played.....

which, with the line, "one more lie about white crimes" and Malcolm
and more herein, is a continuing thematic riffing on whiteness as
a deep steady negative in GR.
