Yes, The Ascent is a work of ascetic cinematic wonder.
I watched one of her early (part) efforts, Beginning of an Unknown Century,
at London’s excellent Regent Street Cinema earlier this year. Banned for 20
years in the USSR because of its all too forensic look at Russian peasant
life; can’t think of many greater marks of honour.
