I take it most didn’t care for this series. It seems to me to reflect and ponder much that is relevant as we move forward in our own political conflicts. The series' treatment of PKD’s work takes many liberties, yet seems more respectful in terms of his whole body of work than I expected.The writers seem intent on evoking his peculiar insight and madness, if indeed it is madness.  PKD saw the current empire as a continuation of the Roman empire and that ancient empire was a key model for fascism. 

 In the series the power struggle within the 2 branches of the reich seems credible and thought provoking, particularly in regard to the internal strains shown in the key players.  The visual architectural feel reflects the concentration of hierarchical power; the closer to power, the larger the horizons , but  the darker the tones. We are seeing in our own political system how that pyramidal structure can underlie an outwardly more egalitarian style. It ends up working in the society like a paranoia generating machine. People are forced into alignments that first seem ideological and then reveal themselves to be purely and only about the power/money/war machinery.  The failure of the resistance hinges on lack of compassion, the pursuit of justice subsumed by the pursit of revenge and leadership.  Those are pretty obvious problems in our own  political present  and I am curious where the series-makers plan to take them. The concern is that they will draw out the drama so far that it undermines thematic and dramatic coherence, but maybe the plan is to provide a dark reflection of current events.

I find the characters and relationships well crafted, fully engaging and artfully integrated into the story and the world they inhabit.
