The Day

It is only now, after rereading, that I see that 'the day' in Remains of
the Day
has thematic resonances with 'the day' of Against the Day.

The day finally ending, the sun finally setting on the English empire is
Ishiguro.
Against that whole day is Pynchon, of course.
