Lots of enthusiastic posts last evening, I hope it portends a full Group
Read and full Group Listen. I think it is time that I listened to M & D,
such a review, and I'd heard it was great and I never sprung for the
audiobook since cheap and relatively poor.
I don't think anyone will report anyone to the authorities re the audio
sharing---but I will tell all here that I did to that guy who
popped onto our list a couple years ago offering some kind of print GR
copyright infringement use, can't even remember but he wasn't us
and I believe that all artists should be compensated for their work. Esp
geniuses like Pynchon (which "esp" argument refutes itself since
lesser struggling writers nowhere near genius and a financially secure life
surely need it more, so it is a matter of respect and homage and just dues
and honor, maybe, and like that).
The problem of a secondary, royalty-free and sharing 'free' market in late
capitalism in the world is real.
Anyway, you can consider sending @15%, or something, the high side of what
may be the contractual terms, of what was the list price of these audio
versions to Thomas Pynchon, through his wife-agent.
Thomas Pynchon
c/o Melanie Jackson Agency

For the last M & D Group Read, an old friend of mine to whom I 'owed' a
book was going to read it and lurk here and the Read had started
and I found a used copy of M & D that day in a used bookstore so I
immediately sent it to him and sent Ms Jackson the approximate royalties
they would have gotten had I bought a new copy. I respected myself after.
Although I have not always been so righteous in action. (Which reminds me I
have to find out who the agent for the writer of The Flamethrowers is. Or
else
send her royalties to her c/o her publisher)
