riding more bicycles. long-term, America should do everything possible to
decrease its dependence on oil, 60% of which it now gets from the Middle
East. ideally, we wouldn't just replace that with Alaskan oil, either;
we'd figure out how to live more peacefully on the Earth, with less oil.
peace entails not just refraining from war and killing other humans but
being more gentle with the land and air and water, too. by the same
token, we should stop encouraging the rest of the world to dream the
American dream, with all the pollution (waste) and car-ridden cities and
stultifying education systems and mass consumption of anonymously
delivered services that that dream entails.
