Smoke -
It's good that you have sought the advice of your Elders before you embark
on your journey to meet your Maker.
I think you can find everything you need to know here
http://julianpalmerism.com
which, of course, is Julian Palmer's site.
Julian Palmer is the author of "Articulations: On the Utilization and
Meanings of Psychedelics" a book you probably should have read before
making your plans (not that it would in any way discourage you on your path
of Higher Knowledge) ( If you do want to read this book, write me offline
and I'll see if I can help you find access to a copy)
I interviewed Julian a couple of years ago, which was a time, believe it or
not, when you could not speak as openly about real psychedelics as you can
today. You can find the interview by searching "Julian Palmer" at
www.bdnow.org. In the interview I ask him how extensive his experience with
The Vine is and he rocked my world by saying 'Oh, I'm taken it three or
four hundred times, I guess" I have o put that in the Highly Experienced
category, I guess Incidentally, Julian lists The Vine as a powerful
medicinal drug and reports that many a traveler has had spontaneous
remission of various illnesses while tripping, things they weren't planning
on (EVEN DENTAL CAVITIES !!) I ran this report by America's top herbal
medicine expert at the time, the beloved and the recently deceased Dr James
A Duke. He concurred. (Jim had direct experience with unexplainable psychic
informational events during Vine sessions, btw. A full blown USDA
scientist, he was informed during a session in the Amazon that his wife in
MD was hospitalized, a tip that upon the 2 day trek back to a good
telephone (those were the days!) proved o be TRUE. (I don't remember the
other similar experience))
My daughter, the Brooklyn Millennial 3D printing artist, had a chance to do
some jungle hiking in Peru last year. This lead to a Vine session at a
sheltered site in the jungle with a rather famous Indian ayahuasquero
After a couple of hours of sitting in the circle, she wasn't really feeling
any effects of the brew (frankly, I don't think she even barfed), so she
retreated to her room, where she did have a visitation by her cat that was
actually still at home in Brooklyn. Late in the morning the shaman visited
her to ask her about her experience. She told him about the can and that
nothing else happened. ("Oh, yes, if you are bonded to a domestic cat it
will keep you company while you are with the Vine") Then he said the
important part for you, Smoke: "I apologize and you can be my guest at
another ceremony if you want. On the whole, in this jungle, ceremony
leaders have so much trouble with Europeans not being able to deal with the
Truth of existence that we back the dose way below what we give to other
Peruvians or non Europeans from anywhere. We give Europeans about half what
I'd give to a local. Americans are the worst. A long time ago Vine guides
agreed to not administer more than a quarter of what we'd give to a local
person. Even so, most American's are very happy with their experience. You,
however, are more realistic and I should have given you the full
experience" (Yes, he spoke English (but possibly it was in tongues, how do
you know?)
So, following the advice I'm giving you between the lines above, I once
took 4 hits of windowpane sublingually when I though I was only doubling a
normal dose. It took me about 4 hours (literally) to catch my breath
(although I did enjoy the music the household plumbing is apparently always
making the whole time)
I'm jealous, Smoke.
Oh, like apparently everyone with religious authority, the ayahuasqueros
are famous for taking sexual advantage of their students. I hope that works
out for you, too.
-Allan in WV, who in Old Town Chicago way back in '67 met a Freak
Brother-style weed dealer who said that so many people had become repeat
customers for 'lids' of straight oregano that he was forced to smoke some
himself occasionally to re-affirm it really doesn't make you high.
(Reminding me for no good reason of what a record dealer said to me the
other day about selling my vinyl collection via Ebay : "Don't get neurotic
about grading. I'll bet you that any LP you sell through the mail will
never actually get played. The kids want to own the vinyl but still listen
to download mp3s for the most part. Protecting their investment or too lazy
for the vinyl rituals, who knows?)
