Joyce to me is like the Beatles--an important portal for later, more
relevant and personal discoveries, like first love confirmed and
consummated.  literature wasn't for the classroom but the street, in my
voice or ones I recognized and affirmed.
that first love by the way inspired me and directed me to Pynchon, both now
signposts, not the journey's end
