Some Plister is a great Patrick White fan, no? And on Australia.

The reference to 'cultural cringe' describes what's considered to be a
crucial aspect of Australian identity: "Australians tend to be
prejudiced against home-grown art and ideas in favor of those imported
from the UK and America."
Even while Australians vigorously defend their culture - and often
deplore its 'Americanisation' - there's still a heavy tendency to
think that the best art is created elsewhere.
Do any other (non-UK/US) p-list readers know of something comparable
in other cultures?
