Really succinct this time. Clear maybe. P-related earnest effort

Thanks for the info, and the BBC link!

*in this corner, the doubters *

As Brecht said, “Zweifel macht frei.” Doubt of the GPI report seems reasonable, given a lack of primary sources.

The efforts of Hersh and Fisk also hold some sway with me, I will tend to attend to what they say next.

The long and shabby history of just such US actions also inclines one to doubt.

* on the mat, down but not out, doubts of the doubters *

The difficulty of carrying out such operations is one stumbling block for me.

Looking at possible perpetrators-

a) is it fair to say that the local actors are divided amongst themselves and would find it hard to agree on such a goal to begin with?

b) is it fair to doubt they would construct a lie in hopes the West would provide them aid and comfort against Assad?
seems unlikely that the West would actually come to their aid
but also, unlikely that ISIL et al would think so

c) I’m not going to say all info coming from Russia is wrong, though their really hinky relationship with Trump gives me pause. The Steele Report said they’d been cultivating him since ‘88, didn’t it? Maybe those diligent ex-commies are doing both the info and the disinfo.

Is it possible Russia is both enabling Assad *and* perpetrating the fakery?

Every so often, the US wakes up for a second and throws a bomb, after checking with Putin first. What a country! This squares with US non-response to election tampering at home. Russia was all over the place, and all we did was throw Reality Winner in jail.

The Pynchon link that springs to mind is, “It’s all theater.”

Not to apply it cynically - that’s never my intent.

Government paradigm:
People doing violent stuff get the sticks.
People that behave have a chance at the carrots.

Maxwell’s demon-like, highly paid people dole them out.

That’s the premise of the show.

As the regional Maxwell’s Demons allow criticism of their actions, I’m free to offer such.

More carrots, less sticks! I’ll behave!

Most everybody will if you concentrate on carrot production. Also, more good jobs will come from that which in turn will cause cascades of goodness. Presidents won’t even need bodyguards anymore! The extremely talented people will gravitate away from killing when producing good stuff pays better.

Phase out the frickin’ sticks! Pay Raytheon not to make weapons like you pay farmers not to grow soybeans, for Pete’s sake!

And, “Secret retributions are always restoring the level, when disturbed, of the divine justice. It is impossible to tilt the beam. All the tyrants and proprietors and monopolists of the world in vain set their shoulders to heave the bar. Settles forever more the ponderous equator to its line, and man and mote, and star and sun, must range to it, or be pulverized by the recoil.”

“You will want cause and effect.”
Well yes, but weepers it’s so involved!

The study you refer to was conducted by the Global Public Policy Institute
in Berlin:

https://www.gppi.net/media/GPPi_Schneider_Luetkefend_2019_Nowhere_to_Hide_Web.pdf

1) The study states that "[a]pproximately 90 percent of all confirmed
attacks occurred after the infamous 'red line' incident of August 2013." (3)
This would suggest that Obama's threat actually incited Assad to use CW. It
is, however, far more likely that Obama's "red line" provoked opposition
forces to try to incriminate Assad for the use of CW.

2) The authors thank "our friends and partners at Syrian Archive, the Syrian
American Medical Society, Mayday Rescue and the White Helmets, the Syrian
Network for Human Rights, the Violations Documentation Center, Human Rights
Watch, Hala Systems, and many others for their support of this study and any
forthcoming efforts." (3)

If the Douma incident was staged or partly staged, as seems highly likely to
me, these are the organisations implicated in staging the event and
spreading the news about yet another CW attack by the Syrian army: Syrian
American Medical Society, Violations Documentation Center and, of course,
Mayday Rescue and James Le Mesurier's White Helmets. Hala Systems cooperates
with the White Helmets.

As you can see, these organisations are one and all the "friends and
partners" of the authors of the study. The veracity of their reports to the
authors of the study is therefore, to say the least, highly doubtful.

For the role these organisations played in Douma, see:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-43697084

The GPPi study is based on "498 discrete reports of chemical weapons use in
Syria from a wide range of closed and open sources." (5) If the authors had
disclosed their sources for each incident in the annex, we would know how
many of these reports came from the above mentioned organisations and how
many did not.
