Messenger pigeons are often incorrectly categorized as English Carrier pigeons, an ancient breed of fancy pigeons. They were used historically to send messages but lost the homing instinct long ago.

The dove was at the Baptism, the tongues of fire were at Pentecost, they both were manifestations of the Holy Spirit that were given and received - here the message is offered but our preterite hero's speed isn't up to reception of it

There's a Six Rivers in Northern California too, not far from the bar,
so Buster might be talking about playing in the conference in Six
Rivers California. Hard to say. My guess is Buster makes this up.
Bartenders  must be quick witted and get patrons to drink nice
together, bust up unwanted advances that have the potential to bounce
into a bar brawl, introduce regulars to not so regulars...
