NP - False COVID Fact: “It’s no big deal.”

Last week an seemingly reasonable acquaintance at the gym told me he’d
survived “the virus.”  A slew of false facts ensued, showing how smart he’d
been to not get vaccinated.  I’ll spare you the schpiel, except the last
one he tossed at me:  “COVID is no big deal.  It doesn’t kill any more
people than the yearly flu.”

FALSE:

1.  World Health Oganization:
*Every year across the globe*, there are an estimated 1 billion cases, of
which 3 to 5 million are severe cases, resulting in *290,000 to 650,000
influenza-related respiratory deaths.*

2.  CDC:
*As of September 1, 2021, a total of 641,725 COVID-19 deaths have been
reported in the United States.*
