>From ATD (403):
"The multitude extended farther than they could see-a spectral cavalry, faces disquietingly wanting in detail, eyes little more blurred sockets, the draping of garments constantly changing in an invisible flow which perhaps was only wind. Bright arrays of metallic points hung and drifted in three dimensions and perhaps more, like stars blown through by the shock-waves of the Creation."
Not BE, sorry, but I think of this passage watching the solemn throngs leaving the island of Manhattan after the Towers collapsed. A testament to the good people of NYC.
Spike Lee's doc on 9/11 mentions the ferries that were able to ferry 500,000 from the WTC to Jersey. That's incredible. More than Dunkirk. Amazing that it's not more widely known (as Spike comments in the film).
God bless the poor people that died that terrible day.
