Well, I think the "narrowing of options" as that paragraph has it that
eliminates the Republican Party as one of the meanings is just that.
Anti-Pynchon and incorrect. Why would someone reduce Pynchon like this?
I have reread the Chapter and we can all notice that on p 192 there is
another specific reference: "barking-mad Republicans"....I say
almost prescient or at least a bleeding edge political observation as
almost all straight-seeing observers of American politics and society
can see the growing madness of a large proportion of the Republican
Party.....Madness defined the clear old-fashioned way: out of touch with
reality.
