NP - need a book recommendation

Howdy all,

So I got roped into doing a book club project at work which is intended for
a non-native audience (TEFL stuff) so it shouldn't be too thick or
convulted, the thing is is that they have a very narrow profile. First, it
should be a book by a British author or someone based in the UK. It should
not be too long (200 pgs or less) and published in the last 20 yrs. Oh, and
preferably by a female and perhaps even from some non-WASP background
(origins in some commonwealth country/ former colony).

I'm poking around but having some guidance would help. If you have any
ideas please pass them on. Thanks
