The basic Jewish Code is the Torah, the five written books [The Pentateuch]
from Moses. ---New Jewish Encyclopedia

BUT there is this from a book on Jewishness in society: There is another
Jewish code in which something is Jewish enough to be recognized by
non-Jewish Americans but not too Jewish as to be recognizable only to Jews.
Fiddler on the roof being the example of the former.
