This brutal conditioning of a boy, which Maxine thinks
Windust may have gone through is like everything and more
that the Kenosha Kid went through in GR....
"...sent again and again into the cruel wilderness of Time" abducted
around 1960, "abducted by earth-born aliens" ........"a murderous stooge
for the IMF"--take that, neoliberal late capitalist---
And when he appears, one can't get the two stories---appearance and
reality--to connect.
the massive hypocrisy at the heart of the enterprise of late capitalism.
but Time again. As in AtD, Time cannot be escaped so, of course, escaping
it must be tried and
must fail...."you don't just do it from inside out, with your mind and
body, and navigating Time is an
unforgiving discipline, It requires years of pain, hard labor, and loss,
and there is no redemption---of, or
from anything.".....TRP gives us one again his vision of the human
condition at one level.....
links it here to what we have had to live through in Time since 1960.....
Neoliberal, but he is funning with that too as a label, I say, as the
constant "late capitalism' labeling
both of which are attempts to simply prtray the wash of money created out
of nothing (mostly) and flowing
thru this novel. The novel is fucking Dreiserian--Cowperwoodian.
