What I think it means is this, given the definition of set a pick:  Ms St.
Claire set a pick--
stood solid in a commanding position per the definition; stood solid "off"
...Ron

---in setting a pick
one firmly crowds the defender to keep that defender out of the play---this
is the way
it happened off the basketball court in that elevator story--arms out, and
in the way without
grabbing.....

then, Ron blocked out of the way, Ms St. Claire is now able to leap on
Hecuba's back.....notice the scene
is fluid re Hecuba clutching an off-balance Nici Sterling---and do a
chokehold.

There is a great cat video I cannot find again where a cat, as firm on its
back legs as Bill Russell on a set-pick , throws one
front leg around a dog, a short one, sniffing and coming too close, and
actually somersaults him and walks away
cool as any cat...
