I'm not sure what you think you're accomplishing by muttering loudly about
Our Great Democracy's enemies, They, Them, & The Secret Chiefs Of Ownin'
Sheeple.  I get that it has something to do with nepotistic failsons and
laptops...  But, uh, am I supposed to infer the present bumper-crop of
administrative shitheeels in office are demonstrably worse than the
previous bumper-crop of humanoid crowbars who clamored for four solid years
to fuck-everything-fuckable up?

Yesterday I was in the express checkout at the grocer's, where I noted that
the National Enquirer continues to tow the Great Orange Line.  Coulda swore
some fresh bizness-people bought the Enquirer, but there it was,
regurgitating talking points from the previous admin, claiming the latest
covid variant is more "Chinese" biowarfare.

That was the topmost banner on the front page, above the National Enquirer
logo.  The rest of the cover was a shrieking capslocked attack on some
republican congresscritter as a narcissistic psychotic, a-and... a
crossdresser!

Headlines as quantifiable as anything you're liable to catch from Televised
News, is what I'm saying.

When I returned home, my boyfriend was fretting over some fresh internet
emanation from the selfsame shuddering Noise Machine.  Republican hacks
with tenuous careers, cravenly attacking people like my partner, claiming
Grave Social Danger, saying people such as ourselves (anti-christian sexual
degenerates! just like the 1950s warned us about!) are signs of Impending
Cultural Collapse.

Because a functioning society teetering due to its collective inability to
agree on the mechanisms of viral infection & how to prevent transmission
isn't a sign of impending collapse, no sir.

Any more than a rich mad bastard's son-in-law profiteering off stolen
medical supplies during a pandemic is a sign.  Or said rich mad bastard
promoting a quack cure like hydroxychloroquine.

These aren't signs.  It's just a vast lefty conspiracy against a rich mad
bastard with all the innocence of radioactive slag.  Fer shure.

Back to my boyfriend.  By way of illustrating the palpable, gropy
desperation of They/Them, I mention the National Enquirer cover... having
already memory-holed which *specific* republican freakshow pissed off the
former TeeVee ShitBag & Rapacious Grandpa that owns / owned American
Media.  I tell my boyfriend about the racist headline, and how it invokes
the Wuhan Lab.  I cite a certain mob-connected bajillionaire Owning the
people who "owned" the paper, and that being why the Nat'l Enquirer spent
so much of 1990 slandering Ivanka.

My boyfriend was surprised-- for all of seven seconds.  "That makes... a
lot of sense."

So, Hübschräuber:  I guess what I'm asking here is, who owns Discourse
Magazine?  Some Libertarians run by the Koch family?  Or are they
trustworthy peers with zero conspiratorial agenda, and THAT'S why you're
spamming their link to... a mailing list dedicated to Thomas Ruggles
Pynchon.
