Levine looks at the helicopters taking off long enough to see their
resemblance to giant insects - a swamp resonance - & goes back to sleep
till noon, whereupon he wakes Picnic so as to inquire about food.

Rizzo braces Picnic & Levine for being lazy, as they become conscious of
the hubbub on the quad, with Army vehicles, corpsmen, ambulances & medics
to take care of the survivors whom the helicopters have brought.

A gratifyingly impressive response to disaster! As a way to think about
military capabilities, fixing things is a refreshing one.

There’s a lot of fatigue warbdrobe evident, “with here and there a gleam of
khaki and a flash of brass.”

Never have I before encountered “gleaming” as a way to describe khaki, but
I guess compared to fatigues?
