Names and stereotypes
Bodine - sounds French
Rocco - sounds Italian
Both nations famous for wine
Bolingbroke - very English (also could be satirical of Lord Bolingbroke’s
Tory views; sole ruler of the dump)
Geronimo - Native American, but also maybe like St Jerome translating the
text of Flange’s subconscious mind (St Augustine objected to Jerome’s use
of the Hebrew Old Testament in place of the Septuagint - one might surmise
a relation between Flange’s outburst against Geronimo relating his
fascination with the sea to his mother, and Augustine’s rejection of Jewish
source material?)
Feeny - Irish and wild
Cindy - diminutive of Cynthia, moon goddess aka Artemis
Wasp and Winsome - not only “White Anglo Saxon Protestant” and precursor to
Roony Winsome in _V._ but also wasps as stinging creatures without the
saving grace of honey production, and Winsome as in “charm cultivated as a
method of dominance”
