Bearded also means venerable, worthy of respect, doesn’t it, not merely
indicative of age - though it’s also that.
“Bearded” is modifying “state” which could simply mean “condition” but also
“exaltation” as in “lying in state” as for example Ruth Bader Ginsburg,
right?
