I have loved learning the truth of Solange's line from Inherent Vice by
quoting it around women and getting them to talk....or simply listening to
them
talk about a new hairstyle or cut....

new life-changing hairstyles among young men is a new thing to me since I
grew to old age.   But I may have missed the observations earlier before my
grandchildren were old enough for this to matter....(or for all I know,
since some
of the famous men's hairstyles of the fifties in my limited knowledge)

And I know that attributing causative influence on such a
basic line/observation
could not be proven with what I am going to say, esp about a great female
writer,
Olga Tokarchuck....

BUT...

She does a  beautiful 'episode' in her new book about the full meaning---as
she writes it--
of a woman changing herself this way......changes herself almost
metaphysically or 'existentially'
as the new reduced meaning of that word implies....
