One idea about arrangements: If you can find a copy of the LP by
the American band Insect Trust, a very obscure group that featured
rock critic Robert Palmer among others, I believe they do a version
of "Eyes of a New York Woman" from _V._   This might be of interest.
It's a very loungey arrangement, if I remember (I don't own a copy
myself); my old grad-school band the V-Men tried it a few times
back in the mid-'80s, and we always sounded like we belonged in 
the bar at a Ramada Inn.
