        June 19th issue of Da New Yawker has an interesting, worthwhile
article called "The Road to Paranoia" by Michael Kelly detailing the
mainstreaming of paranoid thought in the U.S. of A.  Snippet follows

         "In its extreme form, paranoia is still the province of minority
movements, but the ethos of minority movements- antiestablishmentarian
protest, the politics of rage- has become the cohering idea of a broad
coalition plurality that draws adherents from every point on the political
spectrum- a coalition of fusion paranoia. For one reason or another, and to
one degree or another, the paranoid view of government and of government's
allies has become recieved wisdom for many millions of Americans."
        Although TRP is not mentioned I kept expecting his name to pop up,
perhaps it's just as well that it didn't. In any case it's a good article
and there are some other interesting (connected?) tidbits in the issue--
