Ok. I'll join this one. Just because I'm teaching 4 courses this sem, 2
are first year english, 2 are narration and description.
We've already worked with MORTALITY AND MERCY IN VIENNA and "IS IT O.K.
TO BE A LUDDITE," with very admirable efforts from all involved. My
students taught me a lot about M&M in V. And while it is rough going at
times, both readings have yeilded some great discussion as well as some
of the best first essays I've ever had from students. I plan to talk
about the responses to the "luddite" piece at an upcoming conference here
called "King Ludd and the REsistance to Technology."
If you're interested in joining the virtual portion of the conference
(Kate Hayles, Mark Porter, and others will be logged in), you can contact
Valerie Allen: allen at chuma.cas.usf.edu. Oh yeah, I'll be there too.
We're holding a rl conf the first day (9/22) and on 9/23 and poss the
24th, the virtual conference is happening. It should be interesting.
Bonnie
