Sixties and Oldies

-- I guess we'll find out in the next novel.  I wouldn't be at all sorry
to see him trying something new;  as much as his previous novels have
affected/become part of my life, maybe it IS time for a new direction.
The people who seem to know have stated with authority that artists
have to grow and change to avoid becoming stale parodies of themselves;
I, for one, think TRP is enough of a craftsman and artist to give us
something worthwhile no matter which direction he moves in (I think of
Elvis Costello, who seems to metamorphose on every album he puts out, yet
still is distinctively himself).
