O.K. so Ethan said:

Ah, but you see, the number of people who have large CD collections is much
greater than the number of people who have (had) large vinyl collections.
For what ever reason, the CD has endeared people more to music. More people
buy CD's than purchased vinyl.

Than Richard said:

1. How do you know people have larger CD collections?

I say:

It's all in who you know, and when you knew 'em. I was (hell, am) a sixties
kid myself and still got a wall of LPs (I don't get around to much anymore)
to prove it. And lots of my friends back then could blow my collection away.

My guess, Ethan, is you just didn't grow up when the LP was king or you would
have known lots of people with huge record collections. Music is music.
Those that cared got it any way they could. And still do.

Much of my collection, by the bye, is also jazz: skinny spines on shelves
gathering dust and CDs piled high. Many of my older faves aren't out on disk
(as I've said off-list recently, por ejemplo, those classic Chico Hamilton,
World Pacific sides from the 50s which I loved in the 60s). Oh well, we'll
always have vinyl.
