Back to DFWallace, who uses real people (and makes them unreal) all the time.
 One good example is his story "Lyndon" in GIRL WITH THE CURIOUS HAIR.  It's
the story of the rise of a young aid to LBJ who goes from clerk to intimate.
 It felt like about 80% of the Johnson references were based on fact, but
where did reality leave off, because leave off it did.

The way Wallace uses real people is really just another type of Pop reference
much of the time.
