more real people

	Just off the top of my head, I can think of many reasons why a) a real 
person can be included in a novel and b) the author might include 
himself.

a)  Real People
	1. It can be to bring versimilitude to the story
	2. It can be an act of homage to an individual
	3. It can be a shorthand method to introduce the philosophy, aesthetic, 	
   morality, etc. of the mentioned individuals

b)  Authors
	1. A pure and simple joke ("See, I did it!")
	2. To introduce recursion
	3. To highlight self-awareness

I'm sure the lists can be expanded almost indedefinitely and that there 
can be overlap between the two.  But I think you get my drift.
