Self-reference

Discussion of self-referential novels always makes me think of
two of the first "novels," Don Quixote & Tristram Shandy. Both
were novel, to some degree anyway, because they were
self-referential. Especially part 2 ot DonQ., published 10 years
after part 1, which includes discussion of a number of spurious
books about Don Quixote. The "real" DonQ. also meets other
people who claim to be the Don Quixote described and made
famous by the best-selling book.
But I like DonQ quite a bit, so all kinds of things bring it to mind
(like GR).
