"Oboy, I thought. Oboy."

This from TP's introduction to a book just handed to me by
friend, subscriber, and all-around mensch WillL, entitled
"Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me" and authored by
my subject. The intro is magnificent - the book also
engaging, though my reading of it was interrupted by the
publishing of IJ.(and pleasantly). 
Anyone have any thoughts or even non-intro info on the guy?
His Friendship with TP? His young death seemed tragic, and
his sprawling characters are engaging - Pappadopoulous
reminding me lots of John Kennedy O'Toole's Ignatius Reilly
in A Confederacy of Dunces (also died young. Hmm.) Consider
this topic open to all comers.
