Well, Here I am.
And what drove me out of the hedges is the challenge to explain why CL49
is the best of the 4 novels. On the contrary, I would argue that it is
the _least_ best of all 4 novels. What I find lacking is the connection
between reader and the characters of the novel; I felt nothing for O.
Maas or anyone else. The novel, or rather the story, was an interesting
concept, but as Tom pointed out in Slow Learner, a good theme does not
make a good story. Now V., on the other hand, is a different story. Pig
Bodine and Company make for a cast of characters that keep people wishing
for more. The same for V-2 (aka Gravity's Rainbow) and V-3 (Vineland). I
imagine that V-4 will be full of equally good characters and stories.

On a different topic, I have felt for a long time that Under the Rose and
Chapter 3 of V., would make a great movie. I'm not sure who would star in
it because at the moment I forget the ages of the characters, but
Sean Connery as the Elder agent if we want to age the agent a bit works
for me. Who would play the female lead?
THe scenery would be spectacular, and the moral tale as well as the war
looming on the horizon would add good atmosphere. The young agent would
be played by...
