Hi-
I'm new to the list, and new to Pynchon - GR was a reading assignment last
quarter in a class with Brian Swimme (I'm getting my PhD in Philosophy at
the California Institute of Integral Studies in S.F.). I had never heard of
Pynchon before (grew up in Germany, lived in Japan for a while before coming
to the US - this is no excuse, but maybe an explanation). To read GR was
almost a physical experience; I felt totally captured, obsessed by the book
- it was in my sleep and dreams, engulfed me first thing in the morning when
I woke up, and I experienced acute pangs of deprivation when it was over.
Then I read everything else I could find in the bookstores - which is all
the novels, haven't found the short stories yet. Now I'm looking forward to
start again, with more attention and distance; have picked up _V_, but still
behind - have to catch up with papers for school!

Any other Pynchon-obsessed in the Bay Area?
