Sounds almost identical to my beaten-up Jonathan Cape (acquired 1974).

It's no zone of London I recognise, but artistic licenence allowed, and                    
it's a more evocative cover than many that came later.


Just to be pedantic: 
The back cover reproduces the sillhoutted cityscape of the front, with one
exception.  On the front, the title is superimposed on a yellow sun/rocket?
burst, which is missing on the back, while on the back above the city are
the words "A screaming comes across the sky. . . . "
