Whether the book is about the flame wars or not may be a matter of
opinion, Dale. The *article*, on the other hand, was very definitely
about the flame wars. Janelle Brown's questions to me were framed
almost exclusively in this context. That was her interest and angle.
     I asked her.

     >nor is it really about Pynchon and his privacy.

Given that the main marketing strategy for LINELAND thus far rests
entirely on Jules' connection to TRP, this statement seems pretty
silly to me. Of course, quite the opposite is true.

I see from the WIRED piece that Jules still maintains the mistaken
notion that the list (and, presumably, the world at large) has Pynchon
on a pedestal from which he needs to be toppled. That Jules makes
this his self-appointed mission is not only highly presumptuous, but
is also one of the things that engenders so much ill-will. I said
this to you last night at KGB and to Janelle Brown when she
     interviewed me.

I gave Brown a lot better quotes than the one she used, btw, in
support of Jules and otherwise. She cared only about the hot stuff.
I have an uncomfortable feeling that this is going to be the general
trend in the press. Too bad--for Jules and for TRP.
