>From Alison Dorfman's overview of "literature on the web" in the new
NYPress Books & Publishing section (February 12-18):
"IF YOU'VE NEVER GOT PAST THE FIRST 10 pages of Gravity's Rainbow, now
there's help; the Web Guide to Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow
(www2.best.com/~redbug/gravity/gravity.html). Debug the mystery with this
highly detailed, hyperlinked index."
Elsewhere in the section is an article about Terry Southern by Darius
James, who at one point writes:
"But on that particular day, the weekly strain--the three-hour rides,
cramped in the rear of a Japanese compact, from his home in upstate
Connecticut to the Columbia campus; his day-long schedule of screenwriting
instruction; the anxiety of maintaining himself on the piddling salary of
an adjunct faculty member--proved too much for his already weakened
heart..."
