T.P. gossip from Humboldt

	The other night over a few beers with an English prof here at HSU
I heard a few interesting rumors about ol' Tom when he lived in the area. 
Supposedly T.P. lived right across the street from another English prof
who didn't know him from Adam, mainly because his focus was mediaeval
lit(a cautionary tale about the dangers of overspecialization?).
Apparently Tom was on closer terms with a few members of the Philosophy
dept. here and he was known to use travellers checks exclusively so he
wouldn't be tracked down by cancelled checks. I also heard some stories
about Raymond Carver not apropo to this list, though I wonder if T.P. and
Carver ever crossed paths during their time here.....
