Vidal is alluding to scene in 'Myra Breckinridge' in which dildoed Myra
(formerly Myron) is enjoying the anal favors of a hetero stuntman. The
stuntman's anus is referred to as a rosebud.
Vidal, I guess, is saying that he is the first to make novelistic use
of 'rosebud' in this anal context.
Thanks. Though I'd forgotten about Myron/Myra, I did suspect this was
V's meaning, but when I suggested as much earlier, someone said such literary usage was old as the hills. But maybe they were talking
about non-novelistic literary usage, like in Virgil or somebody.
How do you say rosebud in Latin? Rosa germinatia, maybe, or
flosculus de rosa? The first sounds better to MY ear, if Virgil is listening.
